A man charged with stealing from a car when a woman was filling the fuel for his car in Sydney's south, so to drag her over short distances because the man fled with the car.

On Thursday at 13:10 local time, 61-year-old woman was being refueled his Toyota RAV 4 at fueling stations in Hurstville when a man allegedly entered the car and turn on the engine with the key hanging on the car.

The woman was dragged into the short distance because he left the place and cause the fuel hose disconnected from the connection.

The woman suffered injuries in the knees and elbows.

Police found the vehicle at the Carlton on the same day. A 29-year-old man was arrested on Sunday afternoon and charged with theft, driving without a license and damage to the facility residents.

The man refused to guarantee in the face of regional court on Monday.
